Mallorca, sport tourism destination

Mallorca is one the best destinations in Spain to enjoy sport tourism. Its climate and orography, a perfect combination of sea and mountain make it the perfect place. To enjoy, practising or viewing, activities like cyclism, running, duathlon, triathlon, tennis and sea sports.

It is not possible to mention all of the various and diverse sport activities held in the island. Here are some of the best due in 2017:

 

March and april:

Sailing: Princesa Sofía Trophy (from march 25 to april 2, 2017)

Palma will gather over 1.000 boats for this prestigious regatta part of the World Circuit organised by the International Sailing Federation, comprised by seven events held around the world. A total of over 1.500 yachts-women and men form over 45 countries, including most of the current Olympic, World and European champions in the 470, RS:X, Laser Standard and Radial, Finn, 49er, Women’s Match Race and Paralympic Sailing categories.

Athletics: Sol Half Marathon Magaluf (April 29, 2017)

Calvià combines tourism and sports with its international half marathon that takes place with tw other 10-kilometre races (Nordic walking and running). The race started in 1984 as a local competition and now boasts finishers from 24 different countries and three continents.

Sailing: Palmavela (From May 3 to 7, 2017)

The city of Palma on the island Mallorca, holds a new edition of this regatta that includes up to nine different classes. The competition, that has been held since 2004, includes regattas in the classes Lateen Sail, Adapted Sail, Swan Maxi Class, Box Rule RI, ORC International, IRC, Monotypes and Epoch and Classics. And the event is also included on the official 2010 circuit for the Wally class and the international circuit for the Swan Maxi Class. It is a great opportunity to enjoy sailing in the idyllic Balearic Islands.

Athletics: Palma Marathon (October 15, 2017)

Palma holds a fully athletic day with four races  urban races. As well as the marathon there is a Nordic walking route around the city, a 10-kilometre race and a half-marathon.

December:

Sailing: Ciutat de Palma Trophy (From December 7 to 10, 2017)

The city of Palma, in the Balearic islands , hosts a new edition of this championship, on the most prestigious in its class. Where over 600 yachts-women and men from around the world compete for the trophy in waters of Palma. The competition features Optimist, Laser, Europa, 420 and Bénétau categories, with over 400 boats taking part in the spectacular Optimist regatta.
