Ibiza preserves considerable evidence of its long history. Its wide cultural heritage goes from traces of primitive human settlements dating from the bronze age to samples of occupations experienced by their strategic importance (Punic, Roman, Byzantine, Arab) as well as major defensive buildings built after the Reconquest.
Among all its historic and artistic monuments, are exceptional sites to visit:
The Graves Can Sargent, the Cave paintings at Ses Fontanelles, The fortified upper town (Dalt Vila) inscribed in the World Heritage list in 1999, the Phoenician ruins of Sa Caleta, Des Culleram punic sanctuary, St Agnès Chapel near St Antoni de Portmany. Furthermore, over all Ibiza Island, it is easy to find fortress-churches, defensive towers, wells and the Arab influence.
